Lesson Plan: Unit 1 - My Family
Objective: The objective of this lesson is to introduce and practice vocabulary related to family members.
Warm-up Activity: My Family Tree
In the warm-up activity, students will create their own family trees using pictures or drawings. They will label the family members using vocabulary that they already know. The teacher will encourage students to share their family trees with the class, introducing key vocabulary such as \"father,\" \"mother,\" \"brother,\" and \"sister.\"
Main Activity: Family Vocabulary Flashcards
In the main activity, the teacher will use flashcards to teach new vocabulary related to family members. The flashcards will have pictures of family members, and the teacher will introduce the words by showing each flashcard and saying the corresponding word out loud. The teacher will ask students to repeat after them to practice pronunciation. After introducing all the vocabulary, the teacher will play a game of \"Memory\" using the flashcards. Students will take turns flipping over two flashcards and trying to make a match by finding two cards with the same family member. This activity will help reinforce the new vocabulary.
Wrap-up Activity: My Family Album
In the wrap-up activity, students will create their own family album. They will bring pictures of their family members and write a short description of each person using the vocabulary words they have learned. The teacher will encourage students to share their family albums with their classmates, describing each family member in English. This activity will provide an opportunity for students to practice speaking and using the vocabulary in context.
Assessment: Throughout the lesson, the teacher will assess students' understanding of the vocabulary by observing their participation in the warm-up and main activities. The teacher will also assess students' ability to use the vocabulary in context during the wrap-up activity.
Extension: To extend the lesson, the teacher can assign a homework task for students to interview a family member and gather more information about their family. Students can then present their findings to the class in the next lesson, using the vocabulary words learned in this lesson.
